Please be aware however, that it may be difficult to find information given the early dates that you have mentioned. The reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.In adition, most record sources are based on specific locations, usually parishes so without knowing John?s parish of origin it may be difficult to know where to look for information.

It may be an idea to drop in to the Irish World Heritage Centre in Tyrone if you are going to be in the area. They may be able to advise you as to what records are available, however a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

Hello, I have just joined this website and saw your post. With Sir William Verner in that area, it's hard to know if we are any relation, but my GGG grandfather was Martin Verner, who son Thomas Verner (my GG grandfather) married Mary Browne in Milltown, County Armagh, on 8 Feb 1854. Thomas was age 54 at his death in 1880, making his birth year around 1826, so I'm guessing Martin Verner's birth year is somewhere around 1795 to 1805.

As I'm sure you know, County Armagh is just south of County Tyrone, and my Verners were in the very north of it, in and around Derryadd townland, just south across the river from County Tyrone.

Thomas Verner's son, Samuel Verner (my great-grandfather) emigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1881.

If we were connected, it would probably be so far back in the early-to-mid-1700's that, as others above have commented, no records would exist, however I did want to reply to your post, since little bits of information can sometimes add up to something (especially now with DNA testing on the male surname line).

Thank you for your response. My wife isn't home now. She has some sort of collateral relationship to Sir William that she knows but that I am not certain of.
Her 4th great grandfather was John Verner, Sr. who was born about 1725 and emigrated eventually to SC where he died in 1800. I don't know if there is any family name connection but John had a brother named Samuel.

I will show my wife your response. She has done the ancestry DNA test and is on GEDMatch.

My husband is also a descendant of John Verner, Sr.  I'm curious what your source is for estabishing that he came from County Tyrone with the Pettigrew family.  I've only been able to find documents that cite "Ireland" in general as his place of birth.

Rebecca VERNER b abt. 1809 wed William JACKSON.  Rebecca Verner lived in Derryadd  wed 22 Mar 1837, parish Tartaraghan to William Jackson of Derryane and had Marjorie Jackson b. 28 Oct 1837, William James Jackson b.1838 and Martin Verner Jackson b. 1840.  They attended Milltown church after it was built.

My belief was Wm. Jackson was older and died in Ireland.   I have not found parents of either of Rebecca or William.  William might have been wed before.  Family lore said he was an estate caretaker at Churchill and Rebecca a daughter of Churchill estate. 

At Tartaraghan in Armagh there is a tombstone of Wm Jackson of Derryane with children listed, none being Rebecca’s as they all came to Pa in the US.  Maybe it is he and his 1st wives’ children. I found a wm Jackson b1785 Newton Hamilton Armagh wed McKinsrty in 1818 of Armagh.  All these placers are fairly close.

Marjorie Jackson b. 1837 came to western Pennsylvania as a teen.  I assume Rebecca would not send her daughter to Pittsburgh without friends or family nearby hence my interest in James Verner below [poss bro to Rebecca?] Family lore said her mother barely recognized Marjorie on arrival to USA and Rebecca’s surname was now Smith and she lived in Allegheny co., PA until her death in 1895

James VERNER was born in Ireland. He came to America from Ireland in 1794 or 1795, and settled in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA. Believed to come from vicinity of Verner's Bridge on Black Water River, some 70 miles southwest of Belfast. Nicknamed "Little James Verner". Had a home and general store (Verner's Shoe Store?)at Fifth Ave and Market St, Pittsburgh, PA (purchased 1822). He died on 1 Jan 1830 in Pittsburgh, PA.

He married Ann DAWSON, who died on 24 Aug 1852 in Pittsburgh, PA. James VERNER and Ann DAWSON had the following children (Source: His Will):

Alexander V. VERNER, b. 1820;  Elizabeth VERNER, b. aft 1820;  Mary Ann VERNER; James Dawson VERNER, b. 1819; Rebecca VERNER.
