I am looking for my Irish Ancestors. My Great, Great, Great Grandfather was Hugh Burrows. The only information I have on him is that he was born in 1798 and that he came from the Parish of Pomeroy, County of Tyrone, Ireland. He came to America with his parents (I have no information on them other than they were Presbyterian) and his sister and brothers sometime between 1798 and 1822. The only information I have on his siblings is:
Mary Burrows - Born December 4, 1795
Hugh Burrows - Born in 1798 (My Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandfather)
James Burrows
Thomas Burrows
William Burrows
I would really appreciate any information you could help me with. I want to visit Ireland and would like to make Tyrone County the center of my visit.
Thank you for your help.

It can be very difficult researching ancestors in Ireland for the period you are looking at. There are very few records to consult.
Though it opened around 1801, Pomeroy Presbyterian church only has baptism records from 1841 onwards.
You could try looking at graveyards in the area for Burrows gravestones. Include Church of Ireland graveyards as Presbyterians were often buried there as well as in Presbyterian churchyards.

The name is found in the general area. Searching for deaths registered in Cookstown 1864 to 1900, produces about 15 matches, a couple of which were born in the 1700s. (Death registration only started in 1864, so there are no records before that).
Probably the oldest records that might help are the tithe applotment records (1820/30s) which list all those with land. The records are compiled by parish. Those for Co Tyrone are not on-line and you need to look them up in PRONI, Belfast. You can search by name or by parish. So searching for Burrows in Pomeroy parish is easy enough. Assuming that some Burrows ancestors remained in Ireland, that may give you a hint as to where they may have lived. But if the whole family left, it will obviously be harder.

Thank you so much for your quick reply!!
You mentioned gravestones, do the churches keep a record of the gravestones (names, dates, plot #)? Are those accessible online or how can I get that information? My only problem with that is I am not sure who to look for without Hugh's parents or grandparents names.
Also, thank you for the church photo and the brief history of Pomeroy, I really enjoyed those and look forward to sharing them with my father. Do you know how old that church structure actually is?
I will try looking them up in PRONI, Belfast. Thank you for your time and the information. I hope to find some hints located there. Half the fun is the search! Again, thank you for everything!

There are some sites that list gravestone inscriptions but I can?t see any that list those in Pomeroy. Your best bet is probably to write to the Minister c/o the Church. There is usually someone in the Kirk Session who has responsibility for the graveyard who may be able to help you.
Likewise I can?t tell you anything about the age of the church building, other than what is on the website.
