My greatgrandfather, Robert Anderson was born in Ireland. One document simply says Termon. I hope to find news of him through this site. He was born around 1837/38 and left for Scotland at a young age, I think. His father was a Joseph Anderson and his mother a Jane Chambers. Would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on who they were, etc. I think they were Church of Ireland or Presbyterian.

Thanks very much for your kind reply. One of the difficulties is that Robert and Joseph are names that reoccur in the family.
I often wonder if Joseph was married before coming to Scotland. Susequently marrying Jane Chambers.
Again thank you. I will go on trying and perhaps get the answer some day.

From his approximate year of birth, I assume Robert married in 1885 or thereafter. In which case his marriage certificate should state his previous marital status. So that should answer your question about whether he had married in Ireland prior to marrying Jane Chambers. The marriage cert should also have his parent’s names on, and will also show whether they were alive or dead at that date.
Sixmilecross Presbyterian church’s pre 1900 records were all lost in a fire. Likewise the Church of Ireland records only start in 1880. Their early records were lost in the 1922 fire in Dublin.
What’s the date of Robert’s marriage? Were either of his parents alive at that time? What was his father’s occupation, according to that marriage cert? The answers to those questions may open up possibilities for searching other Irish records.

Hello,
There is a new historical group in Sixmilecross and they are on face book. I think if you contact them they may be able to help. I can not say I know the Anderson people you are tracing but I am aware of Anderson families in the area.
There is also a website
cotyroneireland.com
On that site if you go to marriages and look for Termonmaguirk Parish 1830/1869
there are 2 Anderson marriages.
I would think you should be able to trace your relatives through the Church records there or in Sixmilecross Parish which is only a few miles away.
Hopefully this maybe of some help to you.

Hi,
There is a Robert baptised 14th may 1837, father Thomas mother Catherine NICHOLL from the townland of Ramarkin which is close to Sixmilecross. Also a James born 5th October 1839, Eliza born 14th October 1843, Catherine born 31st December 1846 and a Isabella born 13th November 1850 all in the Cooley church of Ireland records
I am experiencing the similar problem looking for a Robert ANDERSON born about 1827 Aghnaglea, Sixmilecross father Joseph. The only clue I have is my mother in law said they were decended from the Bawn ANDERSON's of Sixmilecross?

Joseph Anderson lived in Cloughfin townland in 1825, documented by the Tithe Records. There were multiple Andersons in the area, some of which lived in Cloughfin and others who lived in nearby townlands surrounding Sixmilecross:

Hello,
The list of Anderson names in the Sixmilecross area, referred to in earlier posts are all within a 3/4 mile radius of the villiage of Sixmilecross. The placenames are townlands in that catchment area.
There are a number of Anderson families living in the area. I am not aware of their ancestry.
The Post Office in Sixmilecross was untill recently operated by an Anderson family going back many many yrs....
There is an historical society in Sixmilecross and they may be able to help, they are on facebook.
In the list of place names referred to earlier, Aughnaglea is recorded as Aughnallleagh.
Hopefully this may be of help.

One of my maternal great grandmothers was Margaret Anderson, father William Anderson, per the marriage registration with my great grandfather, James Wilson, a farmer in Cloughfin, SixMileCross, Tyrone. They were born 1849-50 and married in 1870. They had 9 children: John (who married a Lucy Anderson), Eliza, Maria Jane, William (my grandfather), Anney, Anderson, Margaret, Isabella, and Martha. Maria Jane (Jennie M.) and William emigrated to the US (Philadelphia, PA). Martha married a man surnamed Lewis and they eventually moved to England (Derbyshire area).
