8. Daniel Lyons born 24 June, 1877 (this is the one who migrated to the US). His birth registration has parents names and Joseph’s ‘mark’ (Joseph was illiterate!) married Emma Gertrude LEAKE on 5 Jan 1905 in Providence, Rhode Island. Children Daniel and Gertrude. 9. Joseph Lyons born 14 Oct 1879 (parents as previously- reg. about 5 weeks after birth).  migrated to US arriving in New York on 10 April 1900and married Matilda McFarland on 15 Feb, 1906 Providence. 10.& 11. TWINS - Thomas John 1 July1882-15 Aug 1897
Isabella Jane – 1 July1882 (Brackey and parents names, farmer listed) and married Alfred Jenkins and died 1928

1860 Griffiths valuation -  Joseph is listed as a tenant of James C. Lowry in Bracky and has 47 acres of land worth 14 pounds 10s for land and 1 pound 5 s for house. He sublets to Alexander Kyle (who rents a small building for 5s) and to William McCutcheon who also rents a small building at 5s). Sounds like there were 2 extra residences on this land.

Looks like in 1872 Joseph rented from James Lowry section #32 in Bracky - now 53 acres with rates of 25 pounds. He sublets the house to James McKelry. The lease was taken over from Esther Hazlett.

Joseph is still renting section #33 (as in 1860) of 47 acres 3 roods worth 15 pounds in rates and still subletting his house to Alexander Kyle.

1880/81 still renting section 32 with size and rates as above and section 33 (as above)

Joseph died 3 August 1884 and is buried in Drumnakilly. (Holy Trinity cemetery).

Letitia died and buried 4 May 1895. There is a burial stone with their deaths and also several of their children - Robert and Sarah Jane.

Questions:

1. Would love a more precise birth date for Joseph or Letitia. Joseph was son of Daniel McIvor & ? Martha (no name has ever been found but family say her name was Martha) and Letitia daughter of Robert LYONS and Mary ?(johnston or Houston both buried in Drumnakilly in 1872 along with his brother, John. Letitia born c 1844

2. Is there a graveyard record or gravestone for Robert and Mary LYONS and John LYONS? The record for this burial is 'Gravestones of the Omey'

  • Dear Chris:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!

You mention the Gravestones of the Omey, and there is a book that appears to list many of the headstones located within that particular area.

It is available to purchase and the website with the information for that is available at the link below:

    http://www.nifhs.org/product/tombstones-of-the-omey-omagh-co-tyrone/

As to your query about a better birth date for Joseph or Letitia, that may be difficult to find if records are not available.  You might consider looking through the parish registers that are available online at the National Library of Ireland website.

The link for the parish of Termonmacguirk is listed below:

The best of luck with your research!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
