My third great grandfather was John McCarthy, he lived in Ballymacart, however it is unknown if he was born there. I have managed to find him in some very early census, but by 1870 he is no longer there, as yet I have not been able to find his death, however I have been able to narrow his death down to between 1867 and 1870. I have no idea of his wife's name or when she died. So far I have found 4 possible children for John. I have three possible daughters for John and one son, however it is possible there were more children. His daughter Ellen married James Ryan, Johannah married William Walsh and the third daughter name unknown married William Mulcahy. John's son Owen married Bridget Fitzgerald in 1852 in Ballymacart,
Owen and Bridget had 9 children John, Patrick, Owen, Michael, Bridget, Thomas, James, Hannah and Nanno.
Of these children John, Patrick, Owen and Bridget all emigrated to New Zeland. Nanno and Thomas stayed in Ballymacart, where Nanno married Patrick Leahy, and Thomas married Julia Keane.
It is thought the Hannah went to America. However I have no idea of what happened to Michael or James.
I do know that my 2nd Great grandparents Owen and Bridget along with their two children Thomas and Nanno are buried in Old Parish cemetery in Ballymacart.
Would love to get in contact with anyone related to this family or anyone who can help with information about the McCarthy family who stayed in Ireland or who may have links to Hannah, James, Michael, Thomas and Nanno or any one connected to the Ryan, Mulcahy, Walsh and Leahy families who may all still reside in and around Ballymacart.

I will check this out for you, i do know that some of the names still reside out that way.
I have a Ring Blog which you might like to look at. This is a more or less historical Blog site dealing with Ring and Old Parish. You might find something useful on there.

Hello. I am also a descendant of John McCarthy from Ballymacart. My great grandmother was Bridget, daughter of Owen and Bridget (nee Fitzgerald) who went to New Zealand along with her three brothers. She married John Ross in New Zealand and went on to have a large family. My grandmother was their second youngest child.
I have very recently started looking at the family and was delighted to come accross your message. It has already given me information I did not have!
I see that you originally posted this message over a year ago now. Did you receive any information and you are still working on the McCarthy geneology?
I sincerely hope that you get this massage and are able to reply.
