Hello
My ancestor was reported on official documents as being born in "Ballymore" ( no county or other detail). The family oral tradition was that he came from Co Down. Obviously there is a Ballymore parish in Co Armagh but not in Down. Am I right in thinking that Ballymore went over the boundaries of Down and Armagh?
He was probably born about 1810 to 1820 ish.

Thank you for your message. Using the Irish Times website, it looks to me that although Ballymore is on the border between Down and Armagh it does not seem to go over the boudaries:

What official document reported his birth as being Ballymore? I wonder is it possible that he was born in Down but Ballymore was where he was registered as it may have been the closest church to him? It may be an idea to contact the Armagh Public Library to see if they can offer any assistance with regards to boundaries in Armagh and as to whether any of the townlands cross the borders.

Thank you for your response. I will follow up your suggestion. He was recorded as being from Ballymore on British army records, so it could be an administrative 'issue'.
