Dear John
Welcome to Ireland Reaching out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
Can I ask how confident you are of the above year of birth? The only marriage record I can see from Co. Westmeath (assuming they married there) is for a Patrick and Mary in the parish of Delvin on 20-Jan-1796. There are some baptism records for a Patrick Keegan in Mullingar parish in the 1760s and 1770s and one for 1892 but none for the 1780s.
Let me know what you think!

Hi John,
I am hoping that you are still looking for info and/or willing to trade some info on this couple...
They are of interest to me beacause I have been trying to 'sleuth' the origin of a Mary Keegan for some time. My course to this was investigating my 1st immigrant ancestors, Michael & Elizabeth Gallagher from Irishtown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath. They/he worked at Levington Park, Lough Owel and had known Mary Keegan from childhood. They lost all 5 of their own sons & took Mary with them when they went to Australia in 1842 (mary born circa 1823). I have cut & past some info below and can provide a little more - docs & snips if you would wish.
Please let me know if any of this corresponds with info you have gleaned also..
Many thanks, Jock O'Keefe

MARY KEAGAN (AKA Keegan, recorded in immigration as Caigan also*) – is recorded as travelling to Australia on the “Palestine” in 1842, under the care of Michael & Elizabeth Gallagher, of Irishtown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Ireland. (*“Mary Caigan - a neighbour who left home under his protection – is known to him from chidhood”. From Ships log – “Palestine”)
Michael Gallagher worked as a groom at Levington Park, Mullingar (Lough Owel) – which may have been owned at the time by the Levinge family or may have passed/sold to the Dease family.
There are other references for a Patrick Keegan that was an architect in the area (Killucan) and may have hailed from Dublin.

The former Market House in Killucan, County Westmeath. Dating from the late 1830s it was seemingly built by local stonemason Thomas Keegan. An architect called Patrick Keegan, listed as living in Dublin in the early 1820s, designed a gothick game larder for Knockdrin Castle which is not far from Killucan: might the two men have been members of the same family? In any case, the old Market House is today a sorry sight, despite occupying the most prominent position in the centre of this town and being sturdily constructed of dressed limestone on the ground floor with the remnants of a clock at the top of the pedimented breakfront centre bay. How to ensure the future of a place like Killucan: begin by restoring its historic core and bringing new purpose to old buildings.

Hi John,
A small correction to my info posted....(the important part)
Mary Keegan - as the daughter of Patrick Keegan and Mary Jane Keegan (nee Dease);
The ships log for "Palestine" records the parents of Mary Caigan as Patrick and Mary Caigan ("Her father is dead"). The ships log corrects the spelling to Keagan and various records in Australia cannot/have not established the correct spelling.
I have tried to attach a snip from the log, as the source for this.
Many thanks,
Jock O'keefe
