My great grandfather, John Thomas Wheeler, emigrated from Mullingar, Westmeath in 1868 at the age of 16 years. It has been passed down that his mother was related to George Bernard Shaw. I have searched for years without any success. I now believe that I should have been searching for John Whelehan. Recently, I found a John Whelehan married to Mary Shaw in 1834. They had a son, John Whelehan, born in November 1852, that I believe is my great grandfather. He came to America and settled in Chicago. He died in 1933.
