My ancestor John Banco born 1777 married Mary Smallthorn at Birr 1804. He was a watchmaker and farmer. Main St. Birr.1821.

I would like to know of children, if any?

Are there any Birr school records which can be accessed? Church of Ireland possibly.(unsure)

Any information appreciated. Thanks. Roisin

  • Thanks Jack, for the information.

I have Margaret and Anne (Cumberland st.) noted from Griffiths Valuation but no further details. I have a record of a John Banko at Cumberland St, Birr in 1823 taken from 'The Early History of the Town of Birr, or Parsonstown.' (The women could be daughter-in-laws or daughters of John and Mary Banco.)

I will try your other sources. I presume there are no Banco records in the Birr cemetery of St Brendans.  It was suggested to me that the earlier family may be interred in the old Protestant churchyard which was closed to the public, last October, when I was in Birr. Are there any records available of those graves?

    Regards, Roisin.
