Hello
I am looking for Flanagan relations from Westmeath. My great-grandmother was Mary Flanagan, daughter of Edward and Catherine (nee Fagan) Flanagan of Westmeath, Ireland. Mary Flanagan came to New Zealand about 1877. She may have travelled alone but I am currently trying to establish if she also had a brother who came to NZ as well, Edward Flanagan.
Mary Flanagan was possibly born about 1856. Mary married James Hayes in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1882 before moving to his farm at Tuapeka West, Otago, New Zealand. Mary & James Hayes had five children but sadly Mary died after the birth of her 5th child.
Three of Mary's sons visited Mullingar during World War 1 when they were serving with the NZ armed forces & came back with photos of girl cousins they visited - unfortunately the photos are unnamed.
Any information that might connect my Mary to Flanagans in Ireland would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Catherine

Hello Jack
Thank you for the information and reference to other links to check for Flanagan and Fagan connections in Westmeath. It is not easy to establish who might possibly be linked as I suspect that by 1911 my Mary Flanagan's parents would either be of a very good age or could even be deceased given that she was born about 1856. It is very unfortunate that there was not more specific information provided on marriage certificates so that I could narrow my search down. And, of course, I am not aware of what siblings she may have had who remained in Ireland. But thank you so much for all your efforts; I will explore all of the options you have suggested.
Kind regards, Catherine
