I think I might have found the death registration of my 3x great grandfather, James Seery. I mean I found this record, and I think it might be my ancestor. He was born about 1845 and died in Mullingar in 1885. His death is listed in the "Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958."
My question is: Can I find out more about this man? He married Ann (possibly Mary Ann Kelly), who emigrated to New York in 1880. They had two sons, Luke (born in Ireland about 1863) and James (born in Ireland about 1866). James (1866) was my 2x great grandfather.
If anyone could help me find more information, I would be very grateful.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
It may be a good idea to post this message on the Mullingar parish page also, as this is where James Seery died so there may be other records of him there. Here is a link to the parish page:

I did a search for your 2x great grandfather?s birth in the indexes and found a James Seery born in 1866 in Mullingar also. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FY5L-56L
This lends credence to the possibility that the death certificate you found is your ancestor?s. However these indexes do not really tell us much about the people in question. It may be an idea to see if you can get hold of a copy of the original records. These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Follow this link for instructions on how to access them:

You could also try looking at Church records in Mullingar for more information about James. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Mullingar parish, follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
