Thomas Pounder and Eliza (unkown) were married in the United Parishes of Ballycanew & Killtrisk, County Wexford, 25 Aug 1818, by Arthur Colley. I'm trying to find out Eliza's maiden name and/or the names of Thomas and Eliza's parents.

  • There is a listing from NSW that shows the register of marriages in the Church of Ireland Parish of Ballycanew for the period 1799 to 1859 to be recorded in the National Arcives of Ireland on microfilm reference MFCI 101.

Next time I am in Dublin I will try to check this film for the Pounder marriage.

  • Mr. O'Rourke,  thank you so much for being willing to assist me in my family history.  I am unfamiliar with records in Ireland, so I really appreciate your expertise.  I found the marriage information I have from their son's Civil War papers on file at our National Archives in Washington, D.C.  George Pounder died in the Civil War, in 1864, so his mother, Eliza Pounder, had to submit information to prove that she was entitled to a pension from the government.  From the searching I have done, I have only found the Pounder name in County Wexford during the 1800's.  Thomas and Eliza Pounder came to northern Illinois and I am the fifth generation born in the same area of Illinois, although now I live in Maryland.

If you are looking for any relatives in the United States, I would be very happy to assist you.

Thank you again for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Elizabeth Wetzel, Olney, Maryland
