I am trying to trace my Maddock/Kirwan/Neil /Smythl family who lived in clonroche and Enniscorthy in County Wexford. The information I have managed to find is John Maddock married Honor Neil (no marriage date) they had 5 children, Michael, Martin, John, William and Catherine. Two children survived into adulthood, Catherine (never married) and Michael, my great grandfather. Michael was born 1842 he married late in life in 1910 to Anastasia Kirwan. Anastasia had one child pre marriage, who was called Patrick and went on to have 3 further children with Michael, sons Michael and John (my grandfather) and Anastasia. Sadly Anastasia died 5 months after having her daughter Anastasia in 1912. The husband to Anastasia then died in 1914 after a tragic accident, leaving the 4 children orphaned. The children were raised by the Kirwan family. My grandfather John Maddock married Mary Ellen Smyth in 1932. They had two daughters, Winifred (my mother) and Marie celine. In October 1934 John, also in a tragic  accident, died and then 12 weeks later in the January of 1935 Mary Ellen died from TB leaving the 2 girls  orphaned to be raised by the Smyth family who lived in Enniscorthy. 
Does anyone have any connection or information that could help me.

  • The subscription site FindMyPast has the baptismal records for four of the five children all in the Killegney RC parish. No record for John that I can see.

  • To Roger and Patricia  Thank you both for taking the time to reply with the information you have found. It is very much appreciated   I have struggled to find anything on John or Honor maddocks marriage  I have honors  death and I believe johns.  I think I have hit my brick wall with the maddocks

  • Don't give up, Dawn. Look at the 1854 Griffith's Valuation on AskAboutIreland. You will find many John Maddocks, but only one in Killegny in the townland of Forrestalstown.
