I'm trying to find a William Lambert, who emigrated to Argentina in 1844 aboard the ship "William Peile" and was one of the "Kilrane Boys".

He probably was born between 1816 and 1830.

Thanks

lambert

  • Dear lambert

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.

As you can see from the link below, Kilrane is a Civil Parish in Co. Wexford:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2593&civilparish=Kilrane&citycounty=Wexford

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Tagoat/Rosslare begin in 1853. If it is the case that William was actually born in this parish, there will be no parish records available.

Other important sources you could check as a substitute include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these records only name the head of household, it is important information to retain:

    Tithe Applotment: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

    Griffith?s Valuation: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Have you looked at the website of the Society for Irish Latin American Studies?

Some other websites that may be helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

  • Hi Clare,

    Thanks for the info.

I've already checked some of that sites.

I'm in contact with Lamberts in Wexford via Ireland XO. I've sent them info about the family in Argentina they didn't know.

I'm now trying to find the last link in some  judicial archives of Argentina.

    Best Regards,

    Guillermo Lambert

  • Hello Guillermo,

Any luck in your search? I am searching for Lamberts who left that area (Trimmer/Tagoat) around that time; one of whom may have been William Lambert.

    Regards,

    Anselm

  • Hi Anselm,

I've just seen your message, sorry.

I have 2 William Lambert coming to Argentina. One born around 1816 in Ballygillane Big, Kilrane, emigrated in 1844 with the Kilrane boys and settled in Chascomús and Cañuelas in the province of Buenos Aires. He married Mary Corbett and had 2 sons and 2 daughters. I'm descendant of him.
The other William Lambert, was born in 1846 in Tagoat, brother of James Lambert. Both emigrated to Argentina in 1863/64 and settled in Salladillo, in the province of Buenos Aires. They have descendants.

Please don't hesitate to tell me if you need extra info.

    Best regards,

    Guillermo

  • Hi Guillermo,

Thank you for this very useful information. The second William Lambert that you mentioned sounds very promising and I will research it further when I get the opportunity and will report back if I find any connection with either of the William Lamberts.

Also thanks to orchardpark12 for their cut-and-paste of the "Descendants of XXX Lambert" page. There is information on it that sounds familar to me.

    Kind Regards,

    Anselm
