I am a descendant of John Kehoe b. 19 Novemeber 1828-1829 Wexford, Ireland. He joined the Royal Irish Costabulary in 1847 at the age of 19. He was transferrered, or posted to Kilkenny in March of 1848. On April 15, 1851 John resigned from the force to emigrate to the Americas. He ended up in Canada where he married Bridget Duffy b. 15 March 1827 Ireland. Bridget had two siblings that we know of in Sombra Tp., Lambton Co., Ontario that we know of... Dominick Duffy b. abt 14 Dec. 1832 (as per 1901 Census - indicates he emigrated from Ireland in 1842), and Charles Duffy b. abt 1825 Ireland. I was able to locate John's service record from clues he left in 1880 in a publication that became a historical atlas. Here is what I know:
From Lambton Co. Atlas (Belden Pub.) Kehoe, John, farmer. Formerly member of the Irish Contabulary.Born in County Wexford, Ireland, November 19, 1829, and settled in Sombra, 1851. Owns Lot 2, Con. 8, Sombra. P.O. address, Port Lambton.

I am looking for my Kehoe ancestors who immigrated to Baltimore, Maryland in the USA in the 1850s. My ancestral grandfather was named Michael Kehoe who was born in 1831 in County Wexford according to his Baltimore obituary in 1884. His wife Johannah Kehoe born around 1830 (her maiden name was possibly Griffin and her mother's surname reads Dalton from her 1908 death certificate) may have also come from this area. I am now focusing on the town of Mackmine in the parish of Clonmore in County Wexford due to one Griffith Valuation record that lists a Michael Kehoe and a Thomas Kehoe as tenants from the lesser John Richards.

I am interested in the posts having to do with Kehoes in Wexford - as the DNA results point to Wexford
My great great grandfather name is William Kehoe believe born between 1814 and 1820 -- the story states that he left Ireland with his wife and 2 children for America however the wife and children did not survive the journey.
He married again -- We believe in America to Elizabeth Grady (from county Clare ?) she had a brother named Lawrence married to a Louise.
William's first son is named James and first daughter is named Mary for the second marriage - and we believe he is related to a Dennis Kehoe (nephew? 0-- who's father is John -- hence the reason i am interested in your John -- and mother is Bridget Doyle
Dennis came over to America in 1861 with Anastasia-- his first daughter is named Anastasia
need help tracing William back to a parish in Ireland
please help Colleen

Sorry Collen, my John Kehoe did not have any children by the name of Dennis. His family consisted of his wife, Bridget Duffy (b. 15 Mar. about 1827 Cavan maybe) and their issue: Mary Kehoe b. 3 Aug. 1855 in Dover Twp., Kent Co., Ontario m. Lawrence Doyle; Peter Joseph Kehoe b. 10 Apr. 1857 in Dover Twp., Kent Co., Ontario m. Mary Catherine Carroll; Isaac Joseph Kehoe b. 15 Jan. 1858 Dover Twp., Kent Co., Ontario m. Mary Alice Branton; Catherine Kehoe b. 7 Jan. 1863 Dover Twp., Kent Co., Ontario m. John Darius Johnson; Annie Kehoe b. 7 April 1865 Dover Twp., Kent Co., Ontario m. Alexander Anderson; and supposedly a Virginia Kehoe b. about 1866 d. before the 1871 census.

Hi Ellanon
I have some limited knowledge of this family, I think I may be able to put you in contact with another decendant of John and Bridget Duffey.
How strange this is, I have been away from researching my Kehoe family for a while but my son who is an ice skater with a well known company met this lady whilst travelling and they were discussing family history, it turns out that she is a decendant of John Kehoe and Bridget Duffey. I have not been able to find a link with my Kehoe's yet but I did manage to find a photo of Bridget and with the info given to me know that it is her.
I will speak to my son later to get more info if you would like.
Kind regards
Margaret Kehoe

Good morning Margaret,
I have been actively researching John and Bridget for a number of years now. I grew up in Canada on the same road as John Kehoe had his farm. John emigrated from Ireland after resigning from the Irish Constabulary in 1851. He landed in New York and made his way to Canada. He married Bridget Duffy around 1854. The Kehoes settled firstly in Kent Co., Ontario, Canada and had their children while living there (see my above reply). The moved in 1873 to Sombra Twp., Lambton Co., Ontario and took up land (200 acres) near where Bridget's brothers - Charles and Dominick. By 1882 things were not well on the Kehoe farm. Annie Kehoe (my great grandmother) had become pregnant. This was a scandal for the Catholic family as the father was a Protestant - Alexander Anderson. In Feb of 1883 she gave birth to a daughter, and one week later married Alexander Anderson. This must have caused extreme tension in the Kehoe home. Bridget quickly took the newborn to the priest to have her baptized - she was the sole witness. By Nov 1884, Bridget and John separated and John Kehoe remained on his farm with the Anderson family, and Bridget moved in with her Kehoe children. Bridget suied for alimony and won. She the proceded to divorce John, and was granted the divorce on 1 Nov. 1886. She also sued John Kehoe and Annie Anderson for half the farms (and won). John Kehoe died 13 Jan 1893 on the farm in Sombra Twp. Bridget would live until 15 Sep 1901 dying at one of her children's home near Port Lambton. I hear the picture of Bridget is said to have been found in a book.
A number of us have done DNA - we have discovered a connection to an Isaac Kehoe family that emigrated from Co. Wexford and settled in Norristown, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. Isaac was the son of a Thomas Kehoe. We do not know yet whether this Thomas would be the father of John Kehoe, or uncle of John Kehoe.
I would be interested in hearing your son's thoughts -
sincerely from Canada,
Brian Anderson

While I have no information for your query re Kehoe from Wexford I would just like to say that if you are looking up church records include the spelling Keogh because Kehoe and Keogh are the same name. In fact in some areas it was pronounced Keogha.

Hi Brian:
Your research on your Kehoe family is very interesting and I was wondering if you had created an Ancestor Profile about John Kehoe or Bridget Duffy. If not, please consider doing so as it will be of interest to many of our members. The link to create a profile is here: https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database
Any questions, please let me know.
All the best,
Jane

Hi Brian it’s Margaret Kehoe again. I had a chat to my son and he told me about this descendant of John Kehoe and Bridget Duffy. I don’t want to put her name on here but if you are able to email me on margkehoe@msn.com I can tell you who she is and one of her family is doing research also. It would be good if we can put you in touch.
As of yet I cannot get through my Kehoe brick wall until I find my husbands grandfather. Michael it’s on his dad’s birth certificate but no clue of birth or death. We may end up also being a descendant if your John and Bridget but we we have more digging to do, lol.
Hope to hear back soon
Best wishes from England from Tom and Margaret Kehoe

My great great grandfather John Kehoe married Sarah Styles in Wexford Town on Feb 21st 1857. The parish record also has a note attached that appears to say 'from C'Bridge' - I assume Castlebridge. While I have very good records of the family after their marriage, I'm am at a loss as to John's parents, where from, etc. John and Sarah's first son was James, and his second son Martin. John and his descendents lived at the top of the Rocks Lane in Wexford Town. I'm pretty certain that Sarah was from the Town - her father was Thomas.
Interestingly, John and Sarah's first son - James - was born 17 days before their marriage. My research to date 'suggests' that John may be from north of Castlebridge, toward Blackwater, but this is just conjecture. John died in 1885. I believe that he was born between 1821 and 1835, depending on whether one uses his Civil Death Record or the archive of burials in St. Michael's Graveyard ( Wexford Co. Archive).
Any ideas much appreciated. I have my various known info up on MyHeritage - Kehoe Mac Eochaidh3
Later generations lived on King Street and the Faythe, the latter being where I was born.

Hello Gearoid,
I am the John Kehoe mentioned on your family tree (married to Imelda; Son of Martin Kehoe & Violet Wright).
I was always told by my father that Great Grandfather Martin Kehoe (born 1859) and Grandfather James (born 1900), were foremen who worked in Pierces Ironworks (you will see Martin occupation is written as Foreman/Labourer in the 1901 census). It is likely that Others in the family before them and maybe brothers of Martin would have also worked in Ironworks and for this reason I'm trying to establish if there was any link to the Daniel Kehoe who emmigrated to America in 1851 (his son went onto own the Kehoe Ironworks in Savannah) - see below for info.
I believe that the Wexford Kehoes originated from North wexford and generations 'migrated' first to Tenant Farms north of Castlebridge and then into Wexford town to work in the foundries (there were 3 foundries in Wexford in the late 1800's)
In the above threads it says "there was a Michael Kehoe who was born in 1831 in County Wexford (according to his Baltimore obituary in 1884). His wife Johannah Kehoe born around 1830 (her maiden name was possibly Griffin and her mother's surname reads Dalton from her 1908 death certificate)".
I'm guessing there was a family link between our shared Great Grandfather and Michael Kehoe (Tenant farmer at Clonmore and possible the same Michael that emigrated to Baltimore) and Thomas Kehoe (also a tenant in Clonmore) and Daniel Kehoe (who emigrated to Savannah in 1851).
Note that the Clonmore where Michael & Thomas were leasing land was between Castlebridge and Enniscorthy (not the Clonmore in Carlow) so this ties in with your theory that Martin may have come from north of castlebridge.
***********************************************************************************************************************
There were Kehoes from the townland of Mounthoward Lower, (between Castlebridge and Gorey), in northern County Wexford.
William Kehoe was born in Mounthoward on 21st August 1842, the son of Daniel Kehoe and Johanna Rath. At the age of 8 (1851), William and his family departed Wexford Harbour onboard the sailing ship ‘Brothers’, owned by the shipping company R.M. & R. Allen of Wexford town, arriving six weeks later in Savannah in February 1851.
Just three years after arriving, his father Daniel died of yellow fever during the epidemic that ravaged Savannah in the summer of 1854. In 1868 he married Annie Flood and they were to have ten children.
William worked as an apprentice in a local iron foundry where he worked his way up to foreman by 1877. In that same year, his younger brother Simon was killed when the train engine he was driving overturned. By 1879 William had acquired the Phoenix Iron Works, later renaming it Kehoe’s Iron Works.
***********************************************************************************************************************************
I'd be delighted to hear if you have any other information that may tie us to the family of the Daniel Kehoe that emigrated to Savannah in 1851
Best regards
John Kehoe.

John,
Good to see your reply. Tee iron foundry connection is certainly a strong one. The death record for John d. 1885 has him also as a foundry labourer. So John, his son Martin, his son John, and his son Kevin (John Francis) were all in the same line of work.
I look forward to digging further. I have emailed your gmail address.
