So my question to you is to ask you if there is any other specific information you are looking for? It will certainly be an excellent resource for anyone who might also be searching for family members from the same line.

As to specific information I'm looking for, I'd be delighted to learn:

(1) what happened to Dennis MURPHY's (c1812-1895) parents, namely, Phillip MURPHY (c1793-1867) and Mary LAMPORT/LAMBERT (c1780-?) ?  Did they die in County Wexford or did they too emigrate and, if so, where to?

(2) BDM information about siblings of Dennis MURPHY.

(3) ancestral information about Phillip MURPHY and his spouse (including their siblings).

At a more general level, I'm keen to (1) connect with my MURPHY Irish relatives, (2) confirmation of my researching so far or corrections that I need to make and (3) connect with other genealogists with an interest in my particular MURPHY ancestors.

You could check for a death certificate for Phillip Murphy and Mary Lamport through the civil registration records which are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could then search the local newspapers for obituaries/death notices, which might in turn lead to more details. Newspapers can be accessed here: http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/ and here: http://www.bl.uk/welcome/newspapers.html

There are a few other documents you could check for them:

• 1840 Wexford electors, National Archives of Ireland, OP 1840/103.
• 1842 Voters list. National Archives of Ireland, OP 1842/82

If they property, there may be more information about them in the Land Valuation Office. This will show changes in occupier recorded in the Valuation Books.http://www.valoff.ie/ will have these records dating from 1855 to the present day. If an indvidual is recorded as 'deceased', this at least provides an end-point for any search for his death entry.

You will need to check either the church records or civil records for the siblings. It is difficult to tell, but it looks as though Mayglass is in the diocese of Ballymore. If this is correct, then the Roman Catholic church records date from 1840 for both baptismal and marriage records. You can find these records at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4255. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

Hopefully, someone in the local community there will be able to help shed more light on your queries.

I am attempting to trace the Ancestors of my Great, great, great grandmother Elizabeth Murphy. I know her fathers name was John Murphy and he was a shoe maker in 1872. Elizabeth Murphy was born in Wexford Co. (parish currently unknown) in around 1856- 1858 into a Roman Catholic family. Elizabeth was living at Gt Ship Street in Dublin in Sept 1872. I know this much from her marriage certificate. She married an English soldier Henry Potts at St Brides/ St Bridgets church on 16th September 1872. I am unsure whether the whole of the Murphy family may have been residing in Dublin at the time of her marriage. Family tales passed down throughout the years say that Elizabeth Murphy was the only daughter and had either 12 or 13 brothers, due to her marrying an English Soldier she was disowned by her family. Elizabeth went on to live in India where she gave birth to a son John Henry Potts in 1875 and a daughter called Mary Ellen who was born in Fysabad in 1977. In 1881 the family were on the census living at the New Infantry Barracks, Fulford, Yorkshire. It is possible that Elizabeth Potts died around 1884, I'm still working on this lead.

I would love to find out Elizabeth's mothers name and also her brothers, and go back further in history if at all possible. It's proving difficult to trace John Murphy not knowing his date of birth.  

Could we be related? Have you heard any stories of a similar nature passed down from your ancestors?
