Hi
I'm trying to find information about my Dad's side of the family.I know that his grandfather was John Joseph Murphy and his grandmother was Elizabeth Murphy whose maiden name was Philpot I can't seem to go back any further than this.I am a complete beginner on family tree.I have paid subscription to a couple of sites but find myself stuck.I would love to go back further into my family tree.So any information about either of the above named people would be a great help to me.
Thanks
Michael Murphy

  • Hi Michael, I have an Elizabeth Philpot in my family history, but she's much farther back than yours. Knowing how people named their children after others in the family however, (see Irish naming conventions) it's not out of the realm of possibility that our Philpots hail from the same tree. Mine: Elizabeth Philpot, born 1780 in Dublin. Married Ralph Heath. They emigrated to the US, where Elizabeth had a lot of children (William Philpot Heath, Robert, Eleanor, Joshua, Joanna, Isaac, John and Ralph). Elizabeth Philpot Heath died on 7 January, 1850 in Tippecanoe, Indiana. My connection is through her husband Ralph's brother Robert. Robert Heath was my 4x great grandfather. Were your great grandparents in Arklow, or elsewhere in County Wicklow? My Heaths, going way back were. They lived in a little area called Templemichael, then also in Blindwood, not far from Arklow. Did they stay in Ireland? Feel free to reach out. Tracy Lloyd tracynlloyd@gmail.com

  • Yes They were married in Arklow parish. I think her mother was also named Elizabeth Philpot. I found an Elizabeth Philpot born in 1850 but that's all the information I can find. Thank you Michael Murphy
