Searching for information regarding a John O'TOOLE, believed to have been born c1793 in Glendalough, Wicklow, Ireland.
He married Ellen MURPHY, born c1815, place unknown, marriage date also unknown.
By 1845 the couple were living in South Australia where their daughter, Margaret Ellen O'TOOLE, was born. It is believed there were two older siblings, possibly born in Ireland or on the voyage to Australia - Catherine and Mary.
Thank you
Mari, Adelaide, South Australia

Dear Mari
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
As you can see from the link below, Derrylossary is a Civil Parish in Co. Wicklow:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Glendalough begin in 1897 for baptisms and 1808 for marriages. There are some missing dates too though; 1838-1839 for baptisms and 1838-1840 for marriages. If Ellen came from outside the parish they would have married elsewhere. As this is the case you could try checking the following:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Other important sources include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these sources only record the head of the household, the information is very important and can be valuable:
Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp
Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too, for instances of the family name at that time
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search

Hi Mari, I am researching the same family and also live in Adelaide. I am descended from John O'Toole's brother Dennis who was born in 1807 in Newbridge. I think you may have your birth date wrong for John, from memory I think he was born about 1820 And married Ellen Murphy. His father is John Thomas O'Toole born 1783 who married Catherine O'Brien. There is another brother James & a sister, Mary. The family sailed to South Australia in 1840 aboard the William Nichol, all listed as surname Toole.

Thank you unknown responder for your reply to my query. I agree with you about the date of John's birth being about 1820 and I have now amended my tree accordingly. I actually have John's name as John Thomas O'Toole - I have not seen his father's name listed as John Thomas O'Toole. I would be keen to be in further contact with you but you didn't give your name. Thanks, Mari in Adelaide

Hi Mari, my name is Kerri and I have been researching the family for sometime, but have more on Dennis O'Toole. I know the family arrived here in 1840 and Dennis & Mary O'Toole lived down south in their earlier days, as some of the children were born in Morphett Vale, then moved out north to Hoyles Plains. It seems that many of the family ended up out north, I have found information or stories of them at Walkerville, Salisbury, Gawler, Hoyles Plains, Parnaroo etc. John Senior was buried at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Lower Wakefield in 1878 aged 95 years. Happy to share information and help if I can. Regards, Kerri.

Thanks Kerri, the family indeed get around and my lot finished up at Parnaroo and even further north when Margaret Ellen O'Toole married Patrick Larkin. They lived at Wilmington.
I'm currently writing the O'Toole family story and have been in touch with several other researchers who have corrected some of what I have written (as I had absolutely no contact with my Irish connections during my lifetime).
I will be away until the weekend but look forward to hearing further from you. Regards, Mari

Hello Mari,
Just found this post. How did you go writing the history. I am related to Dennis - Great-great-great grandfather on my mothers side.
