Looking for assistance in pointing me in the right direction on how to find some information on Joseph McCurry and his wife Margaret who lived in Antrim, Irelando. Family originally came from Glasgow area of Scotland and migrated to Antrim area of Ireland. Three known children born in that area, Mary Margaret, Joseph and David. David was killed in World War I in 1915. He was a member of The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. His birth place was listed as Coleraine, Antrim, Ireland so I presume that his father and mother were from that area.  Any suggestions on where I should research and is there any online sources I could use. I am a member of Ancestry.com but have not turned anything up.

I can see births in Coleraine for David McCurry Jan ? Mar 1884 Volume 1, page 425, and Joseph McCurry Jul ? Sept 1881 Vol 1, page 457. They might be your family. No birth there for Mary Margaret. Nearest was a Margaret Jane in Jul ? Sept 1894. (Familysearch)

By the way, Coleraine is in Co Derry rather than Co Antrim. It?s close to Co Antrim and it?s quite possible the family lived in Co Antrim.

Can?t see any of the family in the 1901 or 1911 censuses.

  • I have a cousin who is doing extensive research on the McCurry Family (ours is from County Londonderry); however she is investigating other lines --trying to find links--I can connect you to her, if you like.

  • Thank you so much for your quick reply. This very well might be the David McCurry in my line. He was in World War I in the Queens Own Cameron Higlanders so that would make him about 30 which would be of the correct age to go to war. There is several sites listing the War Dead and they list him as Coleraine, Antrim so that is why I listed that. But thank you for your reply.
