Searching for information on John Keefe. Married to Margaret Hayes. Their son Daniel Owen (born 1842 in Ireland) is my Greatgrandfather. Immigrated to USA in 1846.

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. How do you know they are from County Cork? Where did you find the information you have? Have you spoken to other family members about your ancestors? If not, please do, because sometimes family information and stories are known by some members and not others.

When searching records, please check all other spelling variants of the name Keefe, such as Keeffe, or O'Keefe, or O'Keeffe, etc.

If you find a more precise location for John's origins, then you'll be on a roll. This should be your main focus now. Where did you find out about Daniel? Did it offer any additional clues about John and Margaret?

Please keep in touch, and best of luck in your research!

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

  • Hi Sinead,

I had a letter from a great Aunt listing information about the family being from Cork but by no means complete. I found a census record where Daniel mentions his father "John" and mother "Margaret"  both being from Ireland and his arrival to the States in 1846.

I did find a baptism record on an Irish site of a Daniel born to a John and Margaret in Dunmanway in his birth year 1842. I have yet to find a solid clue about John Keefe in the US records. I feel close - but not 100%

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Sincerely,

    Cheryl
