Hi--- my family on the OGrady side are now settled in Mayo and we can trace all our family there. We originally thought my mothers family came from Ennis --- OGRADY was the name.

I am aware that the great man Mohamad Ali's decendants came from Ennis and that the family name then was OGrady.

I am sure there must be a big Ogrady family tree in existance because of this connection ----- could anybody help in sending this to me??

many thanks,

Tony Hester

  • Looking at the 1901 census, there?s 1855 people named O?Grady and 3284 named Grady (which is the same name) in Ireland. There are 600 in Clare and 875 in Mayo.

So a very common name. They won?t all be related to each other and I am not aware of any one name studies on the name.

Perhaps if you were to give details of the person(s) you believe were born in Ireland  with approximate dates etc, we might be able to help you trace your specific family.

  • Hi Tony
As Elwyn says, some first names and approximate birth years would be a big help.
There is a Brockman-Stephen tree on ancestry which has O'Gradys in Mayo back to 1785.
