Hello
I am trying to establish a link with my great grandmother Margaret Ryan (nee Ryan) to the Ryans that hail from Ballyhobin. Margaret's father was Thomas Ryan and her mother's name was Johanna Moloney. She emigrated to Chicago in the 1880s and married another Irish immigrant, William Coffey Ryan.
I know from researching another branch of my family tree that there was a Johanna Moloney who married a Thomas Ryan and settled in Ballyhobin. I know that this Thomas Ryan had a brother Timothy who married Katherine Moloney, Johanna's sister and that couple also settled in Ballyhobin. The Moloney sisters actually hail from Acroboy, in Tipperary. I am fairly certain that the Ballyhobin Ryans are my great-grandmother's family but i have no proof as yet.
Hoping to hear from any Ryans or Moloneys or their descendants who might be able to help me confirm this.
Thanks
Michael Riordan

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Could you please post this message on the County Tipperary profile here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-tipperary
I would suggest consulting the land records called Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). These records should show you some information about your ancestors, or at the very least, if there were other Ryan's or Moloney's living in the same area at that time. It might help you rule out (if that's the case) the other families.
I hope this is of some help.
Kind regards,

Hi Michael,
my name is Philip Ryan and Timothy Ryan is my great great great grandfather. I don't have much information on Timothy but I do know that his son Joseph married a Margaret Bourke in 1889 and I can give you all the names right up to me!
using the census and talking to my Dad I can trace up to Thomas Ryan's son Edmond and his family. Edmond has a grandson still alive today I think. I will have to clarify that. But he would have been couisns to us.
I think John Ryan is the father of both Thomas and Timothy. I found this in a list from a 1821 census.

Thank you to all who replied. I never received an update/email from this site so I apologize for the long silence, i was just unaware that anyone had responded!
Philip Ryan, Your information is invaluable. Thank you. We are connected, if not related, even though i cannot as yet prove that my great grandmother is from the Ballyhobin Ryans, I can prove that my great great aunt Bridget Riordan married into the Moloney family and is sister in law to both Johanna Moloney (wife of Thomas Ryan) and Katherine Moloney (wife of your Timothy). It looks like Johannah Moloney Ryan died during childbirth giving birth to daughter Margaret in 1857. I can't prove the connection between my great grandmother and that baby though. By any chance have you taken a DNA test for genealogy? My father's DNA is on record at familytreedna.com, a DNA match between us would prove the link. Please get in touch if possible.
Anne Dennehy thank you for the baptismal record.
Cheers,

I agree about Phillip Ryan's data - Would you have anything on the O'Loughlins who were related to the Murphys and Ryans in Ballyhobin? I am related to both through my gg grandmother Bridget O'Loughlin who was born in Ballyhobin to Denis O'Loughlin and Bridget nee Ryan about 1856. She came ot Australia after she was married - about 1880.
She married Patrick Quinlan Murphy whose family were from Limerick/Tipperary border townlands.
