Hi,
My grandmother, Honor Anne Kennedy, or Nora, as she was later called, was born and baptised in Ahascragh in1875. I don't know exactly where the Kennedys lived in the township or anything about her siblings except that her father was John and her mother was Honor. I was so delighted to find this page in Ireland Reaching Out and the background it gave me on the parish( also the photos). I loved the fact that it is located on a river since I have always been drawn to river waterways, perhaps it's in the genes! I hope you may know of someone who would know about the Kennedys in the 1800's and where they emigrated in the 1900's. I think there was a John still living there with his family in 1910. I hope you can help me as my father had no real information about his Irish roots when his mother died. If not, I'll cherish all the information you can give about the town.
Sincerely,
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn
Many thanks for your message. I am at present looking into this Kennedy Family from Ahascragh. One of our volunteers from the Killure / Ahascragh, Brendan, thought they may belong to a group of familys that left Irvilloughter in 1848 and 1849 to Quebec. In Griffiths Valuation 1855 a Thomas Kennedy had land and house total 47.5 acres in Irvilloughter and a Michael Kennedy had a house and total 9 acres, Irvilloughter or its proper name Ervallagh Oughter is bordered on the Western side by the Bunown river,so her love of water may be hereditery from her ancesters if she is related to those Kennedys who remained in Irvilloughter.
Will be in touch again, hopefully with more information.
