My great great grandfather Peter McKenna married Ann Conoughy/Conochy/Conachy/Cunningham( or something similar)....I can't find the marriage record because Ann or Anne's surname is spelled in a different way at the baptism of most of her children.. I can't tell which is the correct spelling which MIGHT help me to find the marriage place and thus give me a clue to the names of Peter and possibly Ann's parents....after the marriage the family lived in Drogheda, County Louth..this is where my great grandfather and his siblings were born and baptized...the family worshipped at St. Peter's Church(Catholic) in Drogheda....there is some indication that my great grandfather John and his older brother James attended the Presentation school there as young boys...I have written to the school staff but never received a reply...I have the baptismal records of all of the children which were kindly supplied by the Parish Secretary there but there was no marriage there because most likely, St. Peter's was not Ann's home parish....can you think of anything I may have overlooked or do you know of any resources which might help me to find the names of the parents of at least, Peter but Anne as well?

  • Hi Ed,

Thank you very much for your message to Ireland Reaching Out. I would suggest you try writing to or emailing the school again. It's worth trying, or better yet if you could ring them. http://presgnsdrogheda.scoilnet.ie/blog/about/history-of-the-school/ and the contact details are here:

    Presentation Primary School,
    Ballymakenny Road,
    Drogheda,
    Co. Louth.

    Phone : 0419837119
    Fax :
    Email : presentationprimary at yahoo.com

Perhaps you should address it to the principal of the school, who will possibly pass it on to the right person or guide you in the right direction.

Could you put the image of the document with the name you can't figure out on this message thread? Me or someone else might be able to figure it out for you and set you on your way.

    All the best,

    Sinead

  • Hi Ed

I have taken over the answering of questions recently and wonder can you indicate what years we are talking about for the marriage/ births etc and when did they leave, would they be on the 1901 / 1911 census.

An unusual name here like Cunningham is Conyngham and I wonder if that could be it. If you can give an approximate year I may be able to look up something locally.

    Regards

  • Pat, I'm sorry that I overlooked your reply.....Peter and Ann most likely married in the late 1850's....their eldest child was baptized at St. Peter's Catholic Church in 1858....the children were baptized in a range between 1858 and 1875 which is the last indication of the family's residence in Drogheda....none of the family were listed in the 1901 census so far as I've seen....nothing in 1911 either....some of the children, John, my great grandfather, Mary, Alice(the youngest) and possibly Ann emigrated to Massachusetts.....Parents and the remaining children could have emigrated or died but I don't have a sense of either...
