John Warner of parish Kilnamartyra, county Cork, Ireland, was married at the Roman Catholic church of parish Macroom, County Cork, Ireland, on 19 January 1786, to Ellen Leary of Macroom, by Rev. J.O’Sullivan, pastor; witnesses were Bartholomew Leary and Bartholomew Warner, the fathers of the bride and groom; other witnesses were Lawrence Leary and Wlliam Warner. In 1804, John and Ellen Warner were living at Raleigh South, parish Kilnamartyra, when their son William was born.
John and Ellen had seven known children. Baptisms were located for two sons:
William was born at Raleigh South, Kilnamartyra, Cork, Ireland, and baptized at Kilnamartyra 16 June 1804, witnesses were Johanna Warner and Daniel Porter.
Lawrence Warner was baptized at Macroom 17 Sep 1809.
Baptisms for the other children were not located but information was collected from U.S. records.
Ann (Warner) Buckley, b. Ireland about 1789, d. 22 May 1878, Newton, Massachusetts (my ancestor). She married Daniel Buckley in Ireland about 1825 and had two daughters in Ireland before she immigrated to Fort Hill, Boston about 1830 with her daughters, following her husband who came before her. In Boston, 6 children were born; 5 Buckley children baptisms are recorded in the parish registers ot the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
Catherine A. (Warner) Betts, b. Ireland about 1897, m. Thomas W. Betts, apothecary, about 1835; d. 7 June 1884, East Boston, Massachusetts.
Benjamin Warner, b. Ireland about 1810; (listed as "idiot" in 1850 U.S. census; "simple" in 1870 U.S. census) d. 20 July 1879, East Boston, Massachusetts.
Richard Warner, a slater who settled in East Boston, was born at Macroom 19 June 1811 (according to his naturalization record), d. 15 June 1879, East Boston, Massachusetts. He married Mary Lewis about 1832 in Boston or Ireland.
John Warner, alive in 1857, was listed as the brother of William in William's bank account. I know nothing about this John Warner, and would welcome information or clues.
The family of John and Ellen Warner may have moved from Macroom to the coast. According to family legend, their son Lawrence Henry Warner played on the ships of the Duke of Waterford as a child, and ran away to sea when he was 14 years old. Lawrence married twice in England; his marriage record of 1859 states that the occupation of his father was "brewer."
William Warner (son of John and Ellen) was married at Newmarket, parish Cloyne, 12 Feb 1839, to Catherine Boyle; they had 4 children in Ireland and one in England before immigrating to New York in 1850. William Warner was a liquor merchant in New York city and had 8 known children. His bank accounts at the Emigrant Savings Bank list his place of birth as Macroom and provide the names of his parents and 2 of his 4 brothers.
Lawrence Henry Warner is my second great grandfather. His daughter Mary Sharp Warner, was baptized at St. John at Hackney parish, 22 Nov 1837; she immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, where she married her first cousin, John Thomas Buckley, son of Daniel Buckley and Ann (Warner) Buckley, also my second great grandparents. I am a descendant of John Warner and Ellen Leary twice so they are doubly important to me.
I was fortunate to visit the area once, and walk down the road from Macroom to Raleigh south, and hope to walk there again another day.
I would like to learn more and share information about this Warner family, and related families, especially Learys and Buckleys.
