My gf, Stephen Ryan was born in Ballybricken, Waterford City,  July 1864 to Thomas Ryan and Ellen (Helen) Connors who were married in the church, Holy Trinity Without, in 1863.  Looking for info on either one.  The witnesses at the marriage were John Fitzgerald and Helen Walsh, the priest was Thomas McGrath.  Sponsors for the baptism of Stephen were Ivannis Barron? and Maria Grant.

  • Hi there,

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Ballybricken dating from 1795 (baptismal records) and 1743 (marriage records). These are available from the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 2450, 2451 (B); 2452 (M). If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest in the area.

There are civil records available from the General Register Office (GRO), but these date from 1864.

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
