Hello everyone

I am seeking information on a family from Tipperary named CAHILL.

My great grandmother was born in Tipperary about 1863/4.  I am not sure which parish. She arrived  in Australia in 1883 on the Duchess of Argyle ....

I am not sure about this but there might be a possibility that she came as a domestic servant with a cousin ...  Margaret McGrath and her children, brought  (paid for) out here by Margaret's husband = Michael McGrath who was from Stonepark, Tipperary.  Michael arrived (paid for by the Tobin family) earlier and was working in Singleton, NSW,  for the Tobin family who were from Stonepark, Tipperary.

Bridget's parents were ... William CAHILL and Margaret MOORE.  I have calucated they might have been married around 1860 ??

On Bridget's immigration papers it states her parents living in Tipperary in 1883 ... so I guess they died after that date.

I have no idea of siblings ... I would dearly like to find out more information on this family if someone is able to help me please ..

  • I also have relatives named Cahill who came from Tipperary.  My great grandmother was Margaret Cahill and she was born in Dec. of 1870 in Tipperary.  She immigrated to America when she was 17 and lived the rest of her life in Troy, NY.  She married John Maguire in 1894 and they had 7 children.  She died in 1931.  I only just found her obituary which stated she was from Tipperary but other than that I have no idea about her parents or siblings.  Maybe your great grandmother was a sibling or relative of my Cahill ancestor? having trouble finding out further information on this.

    You may ahve found this information by now as it is some time since you posted. But on Family search.org there are a number of Cahill births to William Cahill and Margaret Moore in Golden Tipperary.

    Also www.rootsireland.ie has abaptismal record for an Ally (possibly Alice) Cahill same parents 27 Feb 1864 also in Golden 

    It might be worthwhile checking out this parish.

  • sorry wrote the wrong birthdate for Margaret Cahill. She was born Dec 14 1869 in Tipperary, Ireland
