I have already posted on the Loughrea site, but my recent enquiries have narrowed down my search to the Abbey/Conicar district.

I am looking for a branch of the Joynt family and the information I now have is that Parents were Michael Joynt and Mary Ann Glynn. They had Mary Kate born 1923, Agnes born 1928, Thomas born 1929, Bridget born 1931, Richard born 1933 and John born 1936.

I have seen a reference to a death notice for Thomas Joynt from this area but I dont think it is the same one, so I am assuming there are other Joynt families from this district.

I am not sure which members of the familly are still living, and I dont know if they are still in this area.

If anyone can help me please get in touch.

Thanks

  • Hi there,

I have posted this message in the same place as your previous query. This way, the people who read and answered your last message, will receive notice of this new message.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

  • Hi, Mollie:

I was wondering if you have had any luck since you posted, since it was back in 2012? Have you sent in your DNA? I am on Ancestry, MyHeritage, 23andMe, FTDNA, and GedMatch. I do have Joynt ancestors. But mine were from Shanaglish and just over into County Clare. It's about 24 miles from Shanaglish to Conicar and 27 miles from Tynagh.

I have DNA matches to the descendants of my great-great grandmother Anna "Annie" Joynt Fahey's siblings. She married Thomas Fahey of Keelderry/Doonally in Peterswell Parish.  I have DNA matches to others with Joynt ancestors from Counties Galway and Clare. She was the daughter of Edmond "Ed" Joynt of Poulataggle, Kileedy, Clare and he died in Corofin, Clare, and Honor(a) "Nora" Larkin of Poulataggle, Kilkeedy, Clare and died in Beagh Parish, Galway. I have Larkin DNA matches to those from Counties Clare and going way back linked somehow to County Tipperary, many still living in Ireland.

Anna "Annie" Joynt Fahey and her brother David Patrick Joynt both lived in Shanaglish, Galway (near Gort) before coming to the USA. Their sister Mary Joynt Fahey lived in Gort/Beagh Parish. Their sister Honor "Norah" Joynt Carrig lived and died in Gort. Brother Michael "Ned" Joynt lived in Poulataggle, Clare. Their brother Martin Joynt was born in Gort and lived in Abbeyknockmoy, Galway (he married Mary Fahey). Probable sister Bridget "Biddy" Joynt was born in Tubber and lived in Abbeyknockmoy (she is listed as a witness in family baptism records). Probable sister Elizabeth Joynt Rabbit(t) was born in Tubber, Clare (Tubber is both in Clare and Galway) and died in USA. We think possibly maybe that Patrick "Pat" Joynt (Joyent) born in Tubber and died in USA (married Mary Connors) was their sibling.

The Joynt name is not super common in Ireland and those that were Catholic is a even smaller group. And those from County Galway and Clare seem to have a common connection.

  • I knew the Joynt family who lived in Conicar, Abbey. I lived in the neighbouring village of Rehan. All the Joynts are deceased now. However there are nephews and nieces living nearby.

  • Hi Mollie, Since you posted this along time ago I do t have much hope you will see this but I have been looking for my fathers side of the family for some time and have had no luck! I know my grandads is John Joynt born in ireland around 1936 and he died 30 years ago. But other than that it’s asif he dosnt exist!. I have also heard of a Bridget before but not sure who she was.. after seeing your post I thought maybe there is a chance this is the family I’ve been searching for and this ‘Bridget’ was actually his sister! Interested to know what information you have and hopefully we can link them up? Thanks Catriona Joynt
