Hello Kilbeacanty! My great great grandmother, Julia Hansberry (b. 1829?) and her brother Michael Hansberry (b. 1819?) came from "Parish Kilbeakanty" Co. Galway. They ultimately ended up in Mobile, Alabama (USA) by the mid 1850s. Their mother might have been a Glynn but I have no proof or documentation other than it was scribbled in on a chart my late cousin had put together. 

I am wondering if there might still be Hansberrys in the parish and if any might have family stories about two siblings who left for America long ago. Something else of interest is that Julia Hansberry married one Martin Hanlon also of Co. Galway. Then Julia's brother Michael Hansberry married Martin's sister Mary Anne Hanlon.

    Thank you for the note and for the interactive link to Griffith's Valuation.  Please feel free to share my original post as well as this email.

    I have checked both the valuation and the two earliest surviving national censuses, but with no luck.  Chances are Michael and Julia were in the US by the time the valuation was done.  Unfortunately I do not know the names of Michael and Julia's parents or if there were any additional children, so I do not know who else to look for in the cenuses.  If Michael named one of his sons after his father, it could be Thomas, Micahel, or John.  Michael and Julia both have daughters named Catherine, so I suppose that could be their mother's name, but this is all just a guess.

    I have been trying to find a list of all the towns and villages that mad up the old Parish Kilbeacanty.  I know it was more than just the town of Kilbeacanty, but not what other towns were included.

    Please let me know if you should find anything interesting in your inquiries.  I think at this moment, I am relying on luck, but maybe other sources will turn up.
