There are two modern graveyards in the Oughterard area: one Catholic, one Church of Ireland. Do you know what religion Michael and Maria practised? Given that Protestantism was the minority religion in the region the C of I graveyard is considerably smaller in size. The Catholic graveyard, unfortunately, is vast, and given the presence of a medieval church at its centre, dates back hundreds of years, hence finding untended and forgotten graves can be difficult. However, there is at present a project working to identify and document the various headstones and those who rest underneath. I had a look around the Catholic graveyard myself for any Fogartys, unfortunately, I was unable to come across any but hopefully the Kilcummin Cemetary Mapping Project will yield relevant results soon.
