I have been trying to link my great great grandfather Edward Sludden to Donacavey and surrounding area, particularly Dunnemona Glebe. The name is on various records for that area in various forms - Sluddon, Sluddin. Slodin. Sludon. e.g Donacavey graveyard inscriptions for Owin Slodin and Patrick Sludon I am sure are the same family.
Edward Sluddens birth was around 1800, he left for Scotland between 1840 and 1850 with his son Cormick and daughter Sarah. Other members of the family emigrated to USA and Australia.
The info I have to date points to that area of Tyrone, and there are also other Sluddens in Fermanagh.
I do not have and direct information of Edward in Ireland - I would be grateful for any help
Kind Regards
Kenny Sludden

Hi Kenny,
Thanks for your message and your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
Here are some links that may prove helpful in your research:
The Tithe Applotment Books found at:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and the Griffith's Valuation found at:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Both the Tithe Applotment Books and The Griffith's Valuation are land records dating to the 19th Century. They are both valuable sources of information for the mid 1800s as there are no complete set of census returns for the period before 1901. Hopefully you will be able to find a record of Edward before he left.
Also, the following National Archives may help:
The National Archives of Ireland found at http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Archives UK found at : http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland found at http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
The National Archives of Scotland found at http://www.nas.gov.uk/familyHistory/
Hope these help. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
