'Am seeking/sharing information regarding the parents and further ancestorage of David T. Emmet/Emmett who immigrated to the United States. David may have arrived in New York on 15 Sept 1869 aboard the ship City of Antwerp out of Liverpool. He married Margaret Reddy on 15 Oct 1873 and settled in Chicago Illinois. His older brother, named John immigrated earlier. David T. became a naturalized US citizen in 1876. His death certificate of 16 Oct 1926 indicates place of birth as Ballengan, Killmolick, Limerick Ireland with father as Thomas or John Emmet and mother as Maria/Margaret Sullivan or O'Sullivan. His obituary states he was 'a good Fenian'.
The US census records are confusing on this because there is another David T who also arrived in Chicago and lived in the same ward. The 1900 Chicago census record shows an earlier date of 1860 at immigration and age of 12 years.
Thank you. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Saw this message, i think the spelling is off with place of birth, could it be Bulgaden Kilmallock?
There was a book written by Imelda O Riordan in Kilmallock on the Fenians recently "Kilmallock Fenians Retrieving their Story" , she might be worth an email? imeldaoriordan@gmail.com

Hi Mike,
Your post did not say whether you are in the U.S. or Ireland. The other Emmett researcher and I are located in the U.S. and have some good records re the 2 Emmett bros, David T. and John who immigrated to Chicago downward to us. I think both Mary and I would both be willing to share our information with you. What we do not have is information regarding the Emmet line back in Ireland. Though questionable, We have that Thomas may be the son of a John Emmet and an unnamed French woman sometime in the 1700's. His son may have been Thomas Emmet (1816-1875). If this is your grandfather or direct other relative, we do have some information to share! Contact me @ Storydancer@hotmail.com. Please put 'Emmett Gen Ireland XO' in the subject line. Best Regards, Storydancer

Storydancer,
Thank you for your quick response. I live in the United States. Based on what you are saying, Thomas would have been my great-great-grandfather.
The information I have been able to gather and confirm would indicate that perhaps my great-grandfather Robert Emmet who was born in 1855 was the brother of David T. and John Emmet.
My great-grandfather Robert was born in Kilmallock in Ballinagoul. He lived for a brief time in the United States and worked as a police officer to earn enough money to purchase the family farm in Ballinagoul. My grandfather Thomas told us about having to farm the land while his father was away in the states for a period of time. When my grandfather Thomas turned 17 he immigrated to the United States where he remained for the rest of his life. Please let me know if you have any other information or if there is anything that I can share with you. -Mike
