Need info on my great grandparents William Joseph Wright and Mariah O’Callaghan. They immigrated to Boston, MA, USA on the ship Fairy Bell from the port of Queenstown. He met my great grandmother at same time and both came to U.S. They married in 1892 in Boston, MA. I have no other knowledge of the Irish connection. Any and all information appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim Hughes

Hi Jim thanks for your message.
You seem to have a bit more information on Mariah than Jim. As you know what parish she was born in you can search church records for the area. Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be beneficial is the Irishtimes. This websites allows you to see what church records are available in specific areas. To see what records are available for Douglas parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland Records go to the following links:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
You could also do a search for some record of the family in the Griffith's Valuation. This was a land survey that was carried out in Ireland between 1848 and 1864. The information is organised according to parishes. You can do a search of the Valuation here:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Perhaps you could also search for any family that remained in Ireland in the 1901 and 1911 census records? You can do this here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
I have also responded to this message on the Co. Down page where you were searching for information on William. I gave you a list of useful websites. These can all be used in your search for information on Mariah also.
I hope this helps,
Kind regards,

Just uploaded photo of William Joseph Wright and his wife Mariah O'Callaghan. Mariah was Catholic and from Cork as described above. William Joseph was Protestant and supposedly started working aboard a ship as a cabin boy and then became a helper in the ship's galley. I am assuming that is how he and Mariah met, either she was already on her way to America or they met when the ship pulled into the port in Cork.
It was passed down by other family members that William had two brothers who went elsewhere. One supposedly went to Australia and the other went to seek a fortune in Africa. The names are unknown and there is no knowledge of other siblings.

Dear Jim:
Many thanks for these photos.
Would you be like to create an Ancestor profile for them under the XO Chronicles? If so please let me know.
All the best,
Jane.

Dear Jim:
If you click on the "XO Chronicles" tab at the top of the page, you will be taken to the feature. You can create a profile for any or all of your ancestors (guidelines require that they're no longer living and were born over 100 years ago). If you have any difficulties, please email me at jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com. Kind regards, Jane
