My McNamara ancestors were from Crusheen in County Clare, and I am hoping to identify the relevant parish.  My great-grandfather's name was Daniel Leo McNamara, born in Crusheen in about 1846. He emigrated to the US sometime between 1862 and 1865.  His parents were Patrick Henry McNamara and Anne McCallon McNamara.  I believe he had a brother Thomas McNamara.  I would be very grateful for any assistance.

  • Hi

The parish you are looking for is Inchicronan.

Here are a couple of sites that you may find helpful

TITHE APPLOTMENT BOOKS / GRIFFTH’S VALUATION

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/

  • Hi Niamh:

It's Jane again!  The name Margaret is also in my McNamara family.  Please let me know what other information you have and I will try to narrow down the possibilities for you.

    All the best,

  • (I thought I put the following on this board before but can't see it now!)

My great grandmother Julia Salmon/Sammon was born in Killaloe County Clare c1817, Her parents were Patrick and Anne. It is thought that she had a brother Patrick and sisters Bridget and Anne. Patrick is believed to have gone to America.

Julia arrived in Sydney NSW as a bounty immigrant on the Adam Lodge on 30 August 1841. Shipping records say that she was under the protection of William Crotty and his wife. These records spell her name as Julia Salmon. She was illiterate and a farm servant. The immigrants were brought to NSW by Gilchrist and Alexander as per an agreement with the NSW Government. Other immigrants on the ship from County Clare included:

    Hannah McKeough 20,

    Mary McKeough 21,

    Margaret Clancey 22,

    Bridget Crotty 16,

    James Hanna 26,

    Mary Hanna 24,

    Maria Hanna 5,

    William Crotty 28,

    Mary Crotty 28,

    Michael Crotty 7,

James Crotty 5, Denis Crotty 2, and

    Catherine Crotty 11.

  • Hi Peter:

Can you create a new message board post for your query?  You can do so by going to this link:  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/message-board

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I do know of others who are researching the Sammon family in East Clare and my husband has a connection to one of those families.

    All the best,
