Thanks to the folks who have commented on the Tracey family ancestry.  I have very little information to go on, so it is very difficult to locate my lineage.

I am searching for a Daniel Tracey who emigrated to Canada from Tipperary around 1790 - 1800.  He lived in the St. Colomban parish in northern Quebec, a newly formed colony for English Catholic people who wanted their own church, because having English-speaking Catholics in French Catholic Quebec was at that time an oddity.

He married a (?) Frances Manning and they had several children in the 1840s approx.

There was another Daniel Tracey, a doctor, who emigrated from Dublin around the same time, and he became a famous author of a leaflet/newspaper called "The Vindicator" during a time of rebellion in French Canada.  The French Canadians were looking for greater representation in the English-dominated government of Upper Canada and this led to rioting and the 1837 Rebellion.  Much information can be found about him online on Wikipedia - "Daniel Tracey".

However, the above Daniel is not my ancestor, so it all becomes very confusing.

My grandfather was a Daniel Tracey. Born Hubert Tracey but he changed his name to Daniel Tracey. Emigrated from England to New Zealand. I'm looking to find out my about my ancestry as well so i'll get back on here with more information.
