Anna McElwain was born at Cookstown, County Tyrone, in 1828. She left Ireland with her parents, William McElwain (born c1798) and Martha Bennett (born c1802), and came to Upper Canada.

Thanks for your message. Would you mind clarifying what information you are looking for with regards to Anna? Do you have any other information that you can post? For example, do you know when they emigrated to Canada?

i am also interested in this McElwain family. They farmed just nw of Cookstown, Co Tyrone, near a community then called Drumnaglough, leaving Ireland in i believe 1836. There were some baptisms in this family at the Orritor Presbyterian Church.
The primary research question is to push this family back -- when did come to Ireland? We suspect from Scotland, possibly around 1700, but we can't place them before the 1820s.
