I am looking for the descendants of the ancestors that remained in Ireland. My great grandfather James Mullin left from Londonderry, Ireland aboard the ship Fannie in 1843. He traveled with his brother Cornelius and sister Grace. His parents were Henry and Ann nee Diamand Mullin. He had two siblings that remained in Ireland. The family was Roman Catholic and were farmers. The 1858 Griffiths Land Valuation lists several Mullin families in the Faughanvale parish and I am hoping one of them is the relative I am seeking. Any information on my family is greatly appreciated.

Hi Pam,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know the names of the siblings who remained behind? If not, you may be able to find this information in birth records, seeing as you have the parents names. You can also use the Church records to see what children they may have had themselves, or any marraiges etc that occured in the family.
Most Catholic records are held locally. However, onesite which may help you is the irishtimes. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Faughanvale follow this link:
Just from having a brief look at this, it seems the records do not start in this parish until c. 1860. Sometimes it might be an idea to also check the records of neighbouring parishes for earlier records. New parishes were created in the 19th century so sometimes the start date for records can be deceiving. Here is a map of the parishes in Derry, and you can see the records available by clicking on the parish:
Also the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland has copies of most Catholic baptism, marriage and burial registers covering the counties of Ulster province. Be warned though, many of the Catholic registers contain spelling errors, especially of place names, and some are not complete. The information contained in them can be hit and miss. Here is their website:

You could also do a search for any Mullins that were in the area at the turn of the century in the 1901 and 1911 census records. Here is the link:

Some other websites taht may help you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

I hope that this helps you. Remember to post any new information that you come across, as the more information you post the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.
