I am looking for any information about my husband great grand parents. This is what I know:
1- Dennis married Ellen Reagan (as spelled on Mary Elizabeth's marriage certificate)
2- Ellen Reagan lived in the Crookhaven area.
3- Ellen had a nephew John Cadagan that lived on Clear Island, Ireland
4- Dennis and Ellen Reagan had 7 children - John (my husband's grand father), Thomas, James, Dennis, Timothy, Mary Elizabeth, and Mrs. Tim Cullinane (don't know her first name).
5- When in the USA Dennis as also known as John by family. Ellen was also known as Mary while in USA. On Mary Elizabeth's death certificate of 5/1/1944 her father's name was listed as John and mother's name was Regan. I know Regan can also be spelled Reagan.
6- It is very possible that Dennis and Ellen were married at Dunbeacon Church in Schull Parish. There son John McCarthy was married to a Ellen McCarthy at St. Matthias Church in Ballydehob, Schull Parish in 1906 or 1907. We have a family tree on ancestry.com under TFMcCarthy, Jr Unfortunately it is not much help except for my husband's grandmother's side. We have found most of her relations. John Cadagan married a Katherine Regan from Buffalo, New York. Marriage was arranged by 2 Cotter sister's that lived in Buffalo. Looking forward to any help Cecelia McCarthy wife of Thomas F. Do you have any important dates in the family that you could share? Do you know any birthdates, marriage dates, emigration dates for Ellen and Dennis? This will help establish a time frame and also determine what records may be relevant to your search.
The fact that Dennis and Ellen may have been married in Schull (also spelled Skull) may be helpful. If you could find their marriage record it may contain information on residences, occupations and father's names in addition to the couple's name and the date. Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may help you is the irishtimes. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Schull parish is actually divided into east and west.
