Looking for an idea of where my grandfather's family came from. Last name is O'Reilly and they emigrated to New York City. His father's name was Edward Francis O'Reilly. I am not sure if it was him of his older relatives that came over.

Dear Mags, I am a volunteer administrator with the Bailieborough Parish. My family name is O'Reilly & I would like to be able to help you.
Can you give me more information eg what year was Edward Francis born & when did he die. Have you searched the Ellis Island site (free) for immigrants into USA. Ancestry.com (subscription site) also has naturalisation papers. If you follow the trail of births, deaths & marraige certs, some one may have put a place down on some of the forms. When you say you are "not sure if it was him or his older relatives that came over" do you have those names.
Also look at any old papers/letters/stories/ names on homes, something may give you more clues & also look at any headstones related to the family as there may be a place on those.
Not to put you off but O'Reilly's are very plentiful in co. Cavan which is the main county for that name & the tendency to repeat the first names confuses the issue.
When you do a little more research I will see can I direct/help you with it.
