Looking for infromation on Patrick McGowan and Anna McHugh. They left Ireland for Canada about 1841. Their children were: John, Frances, Catherine, Margaret, Julia, Bridget, James, Edward, Mary Alice, John, and Joseph. I believe Anna's parents to be James McHugh and Anna McManus. There is a connection to the name Kane from Cavan. The family was Roman Catholic. Any information is appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you have any more information that you can share? Most important is a specific place of origin in Fermanagh. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or place name, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Do you have any documentation, official/unofficial, belonging to the family that mentions a townland/parish/village or town in Fermanagh?
Have you looked into their emigration much? Sometimes more information can be found at the port of arrival rather than that of departure so this may be a place to fins more information-and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For immigration records in Canada check the National Library and Archives at the following link:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
Another good site for information on Canadian records is http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Canadian-immigration-records.html
You could also try looking for the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century, Although these do not offer any genealogical information you they can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. There are two:
the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You could try searching for the family at https://familysearch.org/ This is a huge database of genealogical records that has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
Some other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

I hope that this is helpful. Remember to post any new information you find, especially a parish name. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
