Since posting an earlier message in December 2012 I have learned that my ancestors were from Askeaton and not Abbeyfeale. Ellen Farrell, daughter of John Farrell and Bridget Murphy, married John R. Hartnett 4 Feb 1839 in Kildimo. Their children (Richard, Bridget, Patrick J, Mary E. and Catherine A. were born and baptized in Askeaton. They emigrated from Ireland about 1850 to the US. I am visitng Askeaton in March 2013 from Maine, USA and would like to see as much as I can of Askeaton and Kildimo. Any assistance that I receive will be very much appreciated. I would like to find Askeaton Church (Roman Catholic undoubtedly) where the children were baptised and the local cemetery where John R. Hartnett's parents may have been buried. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am just starting my search and fumbling my way along. But I have a Mary Farrell b. (I think) in Askeaton to John Farrell and Bridget Hammond 15 Aug 1838 (or maybe christened then). Could she have been a much younger sister to Ellen? Don't know about the surname difference of Hammond and Murphy of the mums. Maybe there was a large Farrell family in the area?
Mary Farrell emigrated to Maryland mid-1850's, married Patrick (O) Connor in 1854, had a son Christopher in 1855. He would be my great grandfather.
I, too, am planning to visit the area in October 2013 from Florida USA. I will let you know if I come up with some answers. Have a good trip.

Hello Breda
After just sending my previous message I read the most recent newsletter from Ireland Reaching Out and saw your name as a new parish administrator. There was a Catherine Purcell as Sponsor for the baptism of one of my ancestors, Bridget Hartnett, in Askeaton in Jan 1841. Does your family go back that far in Askeaton?
