James McKernan, according to the records of St Patrick's House where he died in 1911, was born in Swanlinbar in 1840. His father was called Francis and his mother Catherine, but, other than that, I can find nothing else about them.

if you look for Patrick's marraige & it looks like he married twice & amazingly his first family were born in Australia, this may assist you & it may tell you who his father is. You can look for records on Familysearch.org (free site) you may find what you are looking for.
