Samuel Rork is my 4th great-grandfather. I only have information on him in the United States from 1850 till his death in 1882. I have no parents, he listed them and himself as being born in Pennsylvania,Usa. I have record of him living in Clayton,Perry,Ohio,USA in 1950, with the remainder of his years being in Osceola,Clarke,Iowa,USA.

Other than his children and wife the only other information I have is that he was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Osceola, but they did not know where he received his masonic degrees.

Any information would be greatly appreceated.

Thank You

Dawn

  • Hi Dawn,

The original name is more then likely O'Rourke or Rourke.

    Birth:  Aug. 7, 1817
    Pennsylvania, USA
    Death:  Jun. 3, 1882

    Family links:
     Spouse:
      Rebecca Weller Rork (1827 - 1911)

     Children:
      Louis L Rork (1855 - 1936)*
      Charles C. Rork (1860 - 1924)*

As we have his date of birth now it might be easier to find his parents, Samuel seems to be born in Pennsylvania, question remains if his parents came from Ireland or maybe even the grandparents. There is still a bit of searching to do in the USA before we can make a connection to Ireland.

  • We have always been told that Samuel dropped the O on his name. It was also told that he came from Ireland by himself. You have only two of his children. Louis L.Rork 1855-1936, I'm not sure if it is Charles Cornelius, the only information I have is for Cornelius Rork 1860, Catherine"Cassie"Rork, 1850, Elias Edward 1853-1918, Mary Ann Rork 1866-1868 and Benjamin F. Rork 1847.  His wife is Rebecca Weller 1827-1911. Yes that is his grave site. What other information do I need to find. My father has a large picture (suppose to be Samuel) that he said he was going to take apart to see if there is any  possible information on the back of it. When my grandfather Everett L.Rork was on his death bed my grandmother quoted some information to my father about Samuel O'Rork. She said that he had at least two brothers she was told about. She said one was sort of a rough guy, he had a black bear tied in his front yard and the other died in either Clarinda,Iowa,Usa or Indiana(She might be thinking of Louis' brother Benjamin F. Rork, he was in the state insane hospital in Clarinda,Page,Iowa,USA). I can understand under the circumstances of the years and in the process of losing her husband of over 50 years as to why the facts were sketchy. That was about 24 years ago. I still have my fathers notes of that day, it is a little hard to read the information. He even has a little trouble reading them. Very thankful to hear from you. Dawn
