Looking for info on William Johnston whose son James Johnston (b. abt 1832 in Co Cavan) married Mary Acheson (son of John Acheson and b. abt 1839 in Co Cavan). They were married Mar 12, 1868 n Co. Cavan.

I am looking for a family of Johnstons, but I don't know where they lived. I believe they came over from Scotland. My My greatgrandfather was William George Johnston, born in 1855.
His father was John Johnston, born 1814 in Scotland from what I can gather.
His Mother was Susan Braden.
I don't know if there is a connection to the person you are looking for or not.
My GGgrandparents came to the US. I don't know when or what happened to his siblings.

Thank you for your response. I do not know where my gg grandfather (William Johnston) was born. His son (James Johnston, my great grandfather) was born in Ireland in 1832 and I believe it was in County Cavan.

Hi Linda,
It is hard to know that far back. I am on ancestry.com and have a tree with the Johnstons in it - as far back as I know about and that was information my cousin was able to track based on information from her Mother.
On ancestry there are so many William Johnstons. My tree is public and it is under my Mother's maiden name of Gotsell if you want to look at it. We may be looking at the same family, but different branches or perhaps there's no relation at all. Hopefully, I'll be able to dig a little deeper and find more info and you too.
