The first records I can find of Henry Kelly are local records of Yardkin County North Carolins, USA. He first appears in local records shortly after the American Revolution. As there were some Irish regiments or the British Army in North Carolina during the revolution. I have thought he might have been with one of those units and was either discharged or discharged himself and remained in the Colonies. Does anyone know of records and how to access them, for the British army during that period that would show either of those circumstances? I have no clue as to where he might have come from in Ireland and Kelly is not an uncommon name. Therefore if by some chance that is a productive search, it will open up the search for my Irish roots.

I think you may have to go onto www.nationalarchives.gov.uk to view these records. I think they have an online searchable database.
They have muster rolls for the american revolution. these are stored under the war office WO10, WO12, WO13
If you don't find them online then you may need to write to the national archives for the info, but at least there's a good chance that you'll find what you are looking for.
The English kept fantastic records.
