Looking for the family of my grandmother Catherine Norris. She emigrated to the US in 1899, I believe recruited for a job at the House of Calvary in NYC. Her Ellis Island record has her going to join her cousin at a wealthy Manhattan household. That house includes some Irish servants. I belive that cousin was a young woman about the same age surnamed Condon.
I have records from Mallow Center that I believe is my grandmother's family. The parents were Patrick Norris and Ann Baily, married 26-Jan-1860, Mitchelstown. Their children include Thomas, b. 26-Dec-1860; John, b. 1-Jun-1862; Mary, b. 1-Jun-1862; John, b. 25-Jun-1863; Elizabeth, b. 9-Sep-1865; Mary, b. 22-May-1867; Michael, b. 1-Dec-1868; Ellen, b. 1-Feb-1871; Patrick, b. 9-Mar-1872; Patrick, b. 27-Mar-1873; Catherine, b. 24-Oct-1875 (I believe my grandmother); Margaret, b. 7-Jun-1877. Most records include Ballynabrock as address. Dates inferred from baptism registers of Brigtown and Marshalstown. Sponsor names include Condon and Baily. Per Mallow, Margaret married Michael Bailey on 3-May-1908 with dispensation for being related.
My grandmother said she came to the US because her sister had already gone to Australia and there was nothing left for her in Ireland. I have more if any of this connects with anyone on this site.

Below are the links to the 1901 and 1911 census records for your family. Looks like Catherine's parents died between 1901 and 1911. Note the census record for 1901 has Ballynabrock misspelled. There was also another Norris family iliving in Ballynabrock.

Thank you for these links. Is there some way to find death records for her parents? If so would those records tell me anything more? Like their parents' names or something like witnesses/informants?
I am new to Irish research. Wonder how to find the other children - like marriage records maybe. Or how to find a sister that went to Australia. I started looking at Australia several years ago but found that difficult. I think I know which sister that would be if I have the right family.

The house and building page for 1911 shows both Patrick and John Norris on the same page. I believe both are my grandmother's brothers. Also on that page is Michael Bailey. Their youngest sister married Michael Bailey per the Mallow records. They had to get special dispensation to marry since they were blood relations. Probably cousins. Catherine's mother was Ann Baily.
I would like to find live relatives eventually. Any suggestions how to go about this would be helpful.

Below are death index records for a Patrick Norris and an Anne Norris in the Mitchelstown registration district. It is likely that they are for your great-grandparents. You would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie and ask for a copy of the record. Fill out the form, provide the quarter of registration and the volume and page number. Copies cost around 4 euros each. The record will provide the informants name, cause of death, DOB, DOD etc. Parents names will not be included.
You can use www.familysearch.org to see if you can find records for other family members.
I would contact someone in the library in Mitchelstown to see if there are any Norris' in the area now.

Thank you for finding these death index listings for me and telling me how to get copies of the records. I will do just that. Sometimes informants can be useful.
