Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
I did a search on the National Archives transportation database. I could not find any record fo r James but I did find the following for Bridget Dogherty:
Could this be your Bridget?
WIth regards to James given the dates of his transportation you will have to look in church records to find information on him. This may be difficult if you do not know for sure where he is from as records are mostly still held locally.
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
To see what Catholic Parishes are in Armagh and what records are available in each follow this link:

It may be an idea to contact Armagh Ancestry for possible assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email:
If James was from Cork you may be able to find records relating to him at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ These records have been uploaded free of charge however they only cover parts of Cork- the Catholic area covered by the Dioecese of Cork and Ross.
Some other websites that you may find useful are:

I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
