Hi,
I'm looking for further information on my 3x grandparents John O'Brien & Honora O'Brien nee Hyland.
I believe they were married probably around 1830's, as my 2x grandfather Patrick O'Brien was born 1839 near Ballyporeen, Tipperary, but was a native of Limerick.
They also had another son John but sadly I don't know much about him, other than he died in Queensland , Australia in 27th March 1891.
Patrick migrated to Australia in1864 on the Earl Russell (I think) arriving on 10th August 1864, Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
He married Catherine Kealy on 8th February 1869, Toowoomba, Queensland. They lived Highfields Road, Stoney Pinch, near Toowoomba. He died 31st July 1906 & is buried at Aubigny, near Oakey, Queensland. They had four children.
My grandfather Patrick O'Brien was born 10th June 1876. He married Margaret Lynam on 23rd July 1908, Toowoomba. They lived in Pimpimbudgee, near Nanango, Queensland.
They had three children - Kathleen Mary (died as infant), Patrick Joseph (my father) & William John.
Any further information on John & Honora (Hyland) O'Brien would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
Bernie O'Brien

Hi Bernie,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the couple make a connection with you. It will be much easier if you knew what parish they came from? You could try searching on Family Search or RootsIreland to see if you can find any records pertaining to them that gives some hints:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
It may be an idea to contact Limerick Genealogy to see if they can be of any assistance. however a fee may apply. Here is their email: research@limerickgenealogy.com
in the meantime here are some websites that you may find helpful in your research:
