Looking for James PATTERSON born early 1800's, father of Isabella Patterson.
In Cargacreevy Presbyterian Graveyard there is a headstone inscribed "the family burying place of James Patterson of Ballynahinch 1881".
1. Is there a marriage record for this James Patterson, Name of wife? His parents?
2. Are there birth records for James, his children -his daughter Isabella Patterson? born abt 1830?
3. Is there a death record for James Patterson, his wife or children?
Did he die in 1881?
4.. In Dromara Parish there is a James Patterson of Finnis, with a will
dated 1848 & "lodged" in 1855.
5. My grandmother said the Pattersons had a store around Doagh or Lisburn.
James Patterson may have been a farmer.
Your help so much appreciated, Dawn.

Hi Dawn,
Thanks again for your message.
Presbyterian registers are held in three main locations:
- in local custody
- in the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
- at the Presbyterian Historical Society http://www.presbyterianhistoryireland.com in Belfast.
PRONI has microfilm copies of almost all registers in Northern Ireland and also lists of records held by the Presbyterian Historical Society.
It may be an idea to contact the local church to see if they have the records that you are looking for. Here is a link to their parish page:

Civil registration began in 1864 in Ireland so if James did die in 1881 there will be a civil record of it. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
