Seeking information about the family of William McMANUS, (1823-1892) from Ballyjamesduff,Co.Cavan.He was the son of Patrick McMANUS,Farmer, and Annie
"Nancy" ROONEY,my 3x Great Grandparents. He had a younger sister Ann (1833-1906) who emigrated to Melbourne,Victoria,Australia in Feb.1850.She never married. They may have had other siblings.

He travelled to Victoria and married Anne TRAINOR,from Knockbride,Co.Cavan,
in 1846 in the Roman Catholic church in Melbourne. They settled on a farm at

Margot: The Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted in Co. Cavan around 1856. I found one Patrick McManus in the head of household listing for Castlerahan civil parish (which includes Ballyjamesduff) This assumes William's father Patrick was still living in 1856. This Patrick McManus was living in Lismacanigan Lower townland. You may also want to check out www.rootsireland.ie for baptismal records for William, Ann and any other siblings. You have to pay to see the records.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for your quick reply.I checked out the link in your message and didn't find a record listed
for Patrick McManus.But..not to worry..now I know the name of the townland for Ballyjamesduff, which I didn't know before.
As a result of the information contained in your message I checked in the Flaxgrowers List of 1796 for Co.Cavan and found 5 entries-the first one being for a John McManus of Castlerahan,Co.Cavan.Now I have another potential ancestor to follow up!!
Many thanks for your help,it is much appreciated.
Margot.

Hello Margot
I also have ancestors called John and Patrick McManus from Kilmore, Co Cavan, Ireland and was wondering if we may share ancestry. I live not far from Kilmore in Victoria and believe that my direct ancestor, John McManus, was born in Kilmore, Cavan c1746. He was in the 59th Regiment of Foot and fought in the American War of Independence. He served about 28 years in all including some years in the Independent Company of Invalids stationed at Fort George near Inverness in Scotland. I have just come back from a trip to Scotland to research my ancestors. I knew nothing of John McManus until I found his history in the archives in London (his military record). There was a Patrick McManus from Kilmore, Cavan who also served but in the 9th Division and then the 7th Royal Veterans Division. I believe he was discharged on 23 August 1814.
Do you live in Australia and if not, would you like me to try to find out more about the Kilmore, Australia McManuses?

Dear Margot
Looks as if I can't help with the Australian McManuses. Living in Melbourne, you probably have access to as much information as I do (I live in Hepburn Springs, near Daylesford).
I will keep you posted of any new information that I find about the Co Cavan McManus families in my ongoing searches.
Best regards
Corblimey
